Galveston Bay estuary, Texas Gulf Coast
East Galveston Bay, one of the most productive estuaries in the United States, and home to the species in this study.

This website explores methodologies behind finding evolutionary relationships among fish species found in Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. You will learn how to use DNA sequences to ask which species are related and which just look alike.

The site is structured as an undergraduate biology lab: start with why fish relationships matter, learn how DNA builds a tree, explore the trees we built from real GenBank sequences, and then replicate or extend the analysis yourself.
